What to Pack
Below are suggested items to consider. A small gift shop on property carries only the basics of sundries however, a supermarket, pharmacy and liquor store are located nearby (5 minutes by car, 20 minute walk). Coyaba also has its own laundry service however, dry cleaning service is not available.
Clothing:
Lightweight summer clothing is the norm year round. Sweater or light jackets are suggested for winter (Dec-Mar) evenings. Long slacks for men are required for evening dining at Coyaba; although long shorts are acceptable for poolside/beach dining. Bathing suit cover-ups are required in all dining areas.
For Activities/Tours:
Tennis shoes are required for Coyaba's popular daily tennis clinics and walking, biking, and hiking tours. Jeans or long pants are suggested for horseback riding. Collared shirts are required for all golf courses. Golf clubs and scuba equipment are available for rental from the respective service providers.
Medications:
Travelers with specific prescription needs should bring ample supplies from home. Many local pharmacies will carry UK rather than US versions of prescription drugs although many over-the-counter drugs are available. Local pharmacies are not open 24 hours and few open on Sundays. The nearest pharmacy to Coyaba is located 5 minutes away by car.
Families with Young Children:
Parents should bring their own car seats for youngsters if planning on touring the island by taxi or bus. Coyaba has cribs available at no charge but some may wish to bring a portable play pen to have youngsters nap alongside on the beach. Diapers, wipes, Cheerios, etc. are readily available at the local grocery (5 minutes by car); however, brand name import supplies are sporadic and favorite brands may not be available. VCRs are available in all Coyaba rooms with an extensive video library at the Front Desk. However, parents may wish to bring their kids' favorites from home.
Tropical Needs:
As with all vacations in the tropics, we recommend lots of bathing suits, cover-ups and sun protection (sun block, sun glasses, hats). Mosquito repellent will come in handy if prone to bites. Ample beach reading material is a must--be forewarned that U.S. newspaper and magazine supplies are sporadic and unreliable.
Dietary Restrictions:
Coyaba is able to accommodate vegetarian/vegan guests. Those observing kosher diets should note that no kosher foods are available on the island--and Customs prohibits uncooked meats and fresh produce without the appropriate permits. Lactose-free and sugar-free items are also difficult to find; guests should plan accordingly.
